Bargaining

Remote work campaign and Labour Day Parades

Hello Sisters, Brother and Friends,

As you may be aware, Labour Day Parades are being organized and held throughout the country every year. The Labour Day Parades are being held this year on Monday September 2, 2024. The Union of Taxation Employees, along with our colleagues in other Components and Directly Chartered Locals of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) will be participating in these parades and strive to have a strong visible presence.

Reopener Clause-Collective Bargaining

Further to the previous round of collective bargaining, and specifically the reopener clause, our Bargaining Team will meet with the Employer on May 3 and 4 2017. The reopener clause allows us to reopen the collective agreement to negotiate economic increases for the 3rd and 4th year of our current agreement.  It should be noted that if we cannot come to an agreement the issue will be submitted for binding arbitration.

Results of Ratification Votes Announced

UTE members ratified a new collective agreement with their employer today. This puts an end to a bargaining process that took more than four years.

The union’s negotiating team reached a tentative agreement with the CRA in August. This came after PSAC/UTE members rejected an earlier offer from the employer and demanded fair compensation.

“It has been a long road, but our members finally have a new contract,” said Bob Campbell, National President of the Union of Taxation Employees.

Results to be announced October 13th

The results of the ratification vote will be announced tomorrow afternoon, October 13th.  We will post the information on our website, on Facebook, on Twitter and to our email lists.

Retroactive payments

Hello Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

Most of you received retroactive salary payments last week following the signing of the new collective agreement. We are aware that many members are wondering whether they received the correct amounts, and many of you are having difficulty understanding the pay stubs issued by the employer.

Retroactive salary payment

Hello Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

This is to inform you that the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has confirmed that the retroactive salary payment will be processed on the August 30th pay for most UTE members, i.e. where there is no need for manual intervention by a Compensation agent.

Retroactive payments will cover the period from November 1, 2021 to July 5, 2023.

We have yet to receive confirmation of when the lump-sum payment will be paid to members.

We will keep you informed of any new developments as they become available.

Rumours - Ratification Votes

Brothers and Sisters, I would like to address a rumour that is being spread around some of the offices in regards to the ratification votes. Allegedly, some people are being told that if you are voting “no”, you do not have to go and vote as the Union is counting all ballots that are not cast as a “no” vote.

Salary adjustments

Hello Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

It is our pleasure to inform you that the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has confirmed that the rates of pay for UTE members will be updated on the August 2nd pay, and that these new rates will reflect the November 1st, 2022 rate of pay.

Signing of contract with CRA set for October 25th

Now that PSAC/UTE’s agreement with the CRA has been ratified, our settlement is scheduled to receive cabinet approval on October 20. Consequently the parties have agreed to October 25 as the date of signing for our contract.

The date of signing is the date upon which our contract takes effect, and impacts eligibility for the one-time lump sum payment. Also the CRA has a maximum of 150 days from that date to adjust employees’ wages and pay out retroactove payments.
