UTE postpones its National Mental Health Conference as potential strike looms

Hello Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

It is with great regret that we had to make the difficult decision to postpone the UTE National Mental Health Conference originally scheduled to take place April 21-23, 2023 in Ottawa.

We believe that due to the uncertainty of the outcome of the current negotiations between us and the Canada Revenue Agency and a potential strike in the coming weeks, it would not be appropriate to hold this conference at this time.

UTE Strike Pay Top-Up

Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

The Executive Council of the Union of Taxation Employees (UTE) held a special meeting today (Sunday) to discuss the top-up of strike pay for our UTE members who have been participating in the strike.

UTE-PSAC bargaining group ratification kit is now available

The ratification kit which includes the full text of the tentative agreement is now available for download (PDF file).

UTE-PSAC files an Unfair Labour Practice Complaint against the CRA

Hello Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

As you may be aware, subsequent to the conclusion of the recent round of negotiations with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), we were advised by the employer of their intention to end the contract for a large number of our term members. This information was not disclosed to the Union of Taxation Employes (UTE) or to our bargaining team during negotiations, where the parties agreed to the provision for a lump-sum payment payable to employees in the bargaining unit on the date of signing the new collective agreement.

UTE-PSAC members provide overwhelming strike mandate

Workers at the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) have voted overwhelmingly in favour of taking strike action on behalf of 35,000 workers represented by the Union of Taxation Employees and the Public Service Alliance of Canada.

“Our members have sent a strong message to CRA,” said Chris Aylward, PSAC national president. “Workers can’t wait, and we’re ready to show this government we won’t let workers fall behind.”

This is to let you know that PSAC and the Union of Taxation Employees will be hosting a telephone town hall on the current round of negotiations with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Virtual background - Boycott the National Public Service Week

In April, we asked you to boycott National Public Service Week because we were outraged over the employer’s unnecessary use of the moratorium on term conversions.  Since then, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) chose to follow Treasury Board and require workers to report to the office a minimum of three days a week starting in September.  At the same time, the employer advised us that approximately 2,000 of our term members working in its Contact Centres would see their contracts expire on May 10, not to be renewed.
