Robert Campbell - Item 5
CLC COMMITTEE BILL C-377: The Senate amended the Bill, and as such, it was returned to the House of Commons. The amendments proposed by the Senate severely lessen the onerous reporting requirements this Bill would inflict upon our union and our Locals. As the Government has prorogued Parliament, and as this is a Private Members Bill, it is still alive and the Government has options on how to deal with it. We will have to wait and see what happens and what actions we may need to take.
Delivery of UTE Courses: We have scheduled a National Grievance Course for October, and Brother O’Brien and Macdonald are in the process of reviewing the Staffing course.
Job Descriptions for National Office Staff: The National Office is in the process of writing job descriptions for all of our staff. When completed, they will be sent to the PSAC Classification Section for proper classification. I will continue to give you updates as this progresses.
Ad Hoc Structure Committee: The Ad Hoc Committee created to review the structure of UTE has been struck to make appropriate recommendations for changes to our current structure.
Composition of the Committee:
1 Chair of Committee (Jamie vanSydenborgh);
1 Co-Chair (Denis Lalancette);
1 member representing a Local from a large amalgamated office; (Brian Oldford)
1 member representing a Local from a small amalgamated office; (Ken Bye)
1 member representing a Local from a non-amalgamated Taxation Centre; (Sylvie Lahaie)
1 member representing a Local from a non-amalgamated TSO (Wayne Little)
1 Staff Advisor (Annette Melanson)
Mandate of the Committee:
-
To review the current structure of UTE including, but not limited to:
(a) Structure and Composition of UTE Executive Council;
(b) 2nd National Vice-President Position;
(c) Operating structure and composition of regions and Locals;
(d) Operating Structure and composition of locals with members whose CRA reporting structure is virtual;
(e) Funding requirements for Locals from amalgamated offices and for Locals with members who virtually report; i.e. Grievance Representation, Committee meetings and inter-Executive meetings -
To prepare a report and make recommendations to the December executive council meeting of UTE.
The first committee meeting is set for September 4th and 5th. 2013
Respectfully submitted,
Bob Campbell
National President
