I attended a meeting with the National Employment Equity committee on June 26, 2013 via conference call and we were advised that UTE will receive a seat on the New Employment Equity governance model which will be called the National Equity and Diversity Committee. The committee will be made up of the National Chair for Equity and Diversity plus all the Regional chairs for Equity and Diversity plus the two unions. We will meet at least once a year and in the first 2 years will probably meet more in order to ensure a seamless transition from the old system to the new system.
The UTE Equal Opportunities Committee was also tasked to put all the applications from UTE applicants to attend the Public Service Alliance of Canada National Equity Conference in November in order of ranking. This was done keeping in mind the applicant’s involvement, their geographic location and completion of the questions asked. This report was sent to the PSAC by the National President at the end of June and to date we have not been advised who will be attending.
The UTE Equal Opportunities Committee will be meeting the first week of September in order to finalize all the details of the National Conference that is coming up in October of this year.
The Canada Revenue Agency has been invited to the National Equal Opportunities Conference to explain the details of the new governance model to everyone that is attending the conference, that way our members can ask questions about the changes to this new model.
Respectfully submitted,
Robin Johnson
Chair of the Committee
