Marc Brière - Item 5
-
PHOENIX PAY SYSTEM - The usual process of changing the union dues of individuals members by means of the electronic file through Public Services and Procurement Canada is still not operational. According to the information from PSAC, the system should be operational this spring, likely in May 2018. A memo will be sent to members in advance.
-
UNASSIGNED UTE MEMBERS – Since the Phoenix pay system is still not able to process our members’ union dues data, this problem means that we have over 2,000 UTE members not assigned to a specific local. This problem obviously prevents some locals from receiving all the money to which they are entitled.
To rectify the situation, at the last Executive Council meeting in December 2017, I asked all regional Vice-Presidents to contact their locals and ask them to compare their members lists against their office’s organization chart in order to help them identify the unassigned members working in their office but not paying dues to the local.
In early February 2018, I asked my Executive Assistant, Brother Daniel Camara, to send you a list of unassigned members potentially living in your region. That list groups people by province and not by region, which makes it much more difficult to actually identify them.
-
BASIC TRAINING COURSE IN ACCOUNTING – The National Office is still evaluating the possibility of creating a basic accounting course for the locals. That course would be given by our financial officers.
-
JOB DESCRIPTIONS FOR NATIONAL OFFICE STAFF - The National Office is still in the process of writing job descriptions for all of our staff. Sylvie Bastien, Administrative Assistant to the President, is currently working on a document describing her duties.
-
WORKSHOP FOR CHIEF SHOP STEWARDS - At the September 2017 Presidents’ Conference, we received a proposal for holding a workshop to enable Chief Shop Stewards to get together and discuss their best practices. We have decided to hold such a workshop at the September 2018 Presidents’ Conference. The format and content are still being developed at the National Office, and more details will be provided to you in a timely manner.
Respectfully submitted,
Marc Brière
National President
