Stop the privatization of document storage at Revenue Canada

Thank you for your letter regarding the privatization of document storage at Revenue Canada.

The Harper Conservatives’ ambition to privatize the document storage of Revenue Canada contradicts their promise to Canadians about enhancing security and providing greater protection for the rights of citizens.

The most immediate impact of privatizing Revenue Canada’s document storage is the impact on 250 workers – potentially outsourcing their jobs to a foreign nation. Not only will this leave these families reeling, it will impact that national security and sovereignty of Canada while putting the privacy of Canadian citizens at risk.

The possibility of outsourcing document storage to a firm in the United States of America creates numerous privacy risks for Canadian citizens. Although the Harper Conservatives do not have faith in Crown employees and departments, I do. I believe that the private information of Canadians must be kept safe within the public sector of Canada. Transferring these documents to a third party in a foreign state demonstrates a severe lack of concern for the rights and wellbeing of Canadians.

I do not want the sensitive data of Canadians being handled by corporate or foreign interests.

Thank you again for your letter. I consider seriously every letter. Our democracy is dependent on each and every citizen taking an active role. I enjoyed reading your letter and believe that your willingness to participate is an example all Canadians should emulate.

Sincerely,
