1. Review of the previous minutes

The Committee reviewed both the Committee’s previous minutes and the minutes of the Joint Committee meeting from October 2, 2012.

2. Review Agenda for the afternoon Joint Committee meeting

The agenda items are:

  1. Combined Affected Employee and / or Preferred Status list
  2. Process for Identifying a RJO
  3. RJOs with or without Retaining
  4. Update on last Budget announcement and impact on jobs.

1)   Combined Affected Employee and/or Preferred Status list

There are currently 92 members in affected and/or preferred status. The following is a breakdown per region:

Atlantic           4 members
Quebec        21 members
Ontario         25 members
Head Office 18 members
Prairies        21 members
Pacific           3  members

The RVP’s will be sent a copy of the Regional list.  (Note: The National list is broken down per region and not per office as in the past.  Thus, the regional breakdown is per the employer’s regions.)

2)   Process for Identifying a RJO

Brother Blair provided an example where an RJO might not have been the best fit  for a member, thus we will be asking the employer to clarify the process for identifying a reasonable job offer.

3)   RJOs with or without Retraining.

Brother MacDonald provided the committee with an excerpt from the September 2013 Presidents Conference minutes where this concern was discussed. The Committee is looking to get clarification from the employer on what training an employee should receive upon the receipt of their Reasonable Job Offer plus an explanation as to what is training verses retraining under Part IV of the WFAA.

4)   Update on last Budget announcement and the impact on jobs

UTE is looking  for an update from the employer with respect to the last budget and are they aware of any WFA impacts.

3.   Roundtable

Brother MacDonald explained that  in preparing for this meeting he noticed our minutes on the Website were not up to date as our minutes were not being sent to Sister Duncan. Brother MacDonald  and has made sure that Sister Duncan has all the minutes to ensure our committee web page is up to date.
