While key issues remain unresolved, talks prove constructive – parties agree to reconvene in Ottawa next month to continue mediation.
Our bargaining team and that of CRA met this past week in mediation at the Public Service Labour Relations Board in Ottawa. Mediation is non-binding. However it can be helpful in negotiations to find solutions and break impasses. In our case, negotiations that took place this past week with the assistance of a federal mediator proved constructive.
Despite the progress made, we remain in dispute in a number of critical areas, from protections for our jobs to compensation to scheduling rights to the duration of our contract to term employment. We have a long way to go.
We are committed to negotiations. We are also committed to winning a fair contract, one that provides protections and fair compensation for PSAC/UTE members working at CRA. In light of this, and in light of the constructive talks that we had this past week in mediation, the parties have agreed to reconvene in mediation the week of February 24th.
Thousands of PSAC/UTE members across Canada participated in activities to demonstrate support for our bargaining team. These activities, and the on-going support and solidarity demonstrated by union members this past week at CRA workplaces are critical to our winning a fair contract. Our Bargaining Team thanks all who participated.
We will be sure to update as things progress. Go to ute-sei.org or psacunion.ca to sign up for more updates.
