CRA Bargaining: meetings with federal mediator scheduled for this week
January 21, 2014
Mediation
In an effort to make progress in negotiations, PSAC and CRA agreed in November to reconvene talks with the assistance of a federal mediator from the Public Service Labour Relations Board (PSLRB). These talks are scheduled to take place this week at the Labour Relations Board, from Tuesday–Thursday.
Changes Planned
The Conservative government continues to give every indication that it intends to push for more cuts to the public service this year. What’s more, the government has again stated recently that it intends to attack sick leave and potentially other rights of unionized public servants in negotiations this year. CRA is proposing concessions such as ending severance accumulation for purposes of voluntary termination and restrictions on union communication in the workplace, but it is too late in this round of negotiations for CRA to propose additional concessions such as changes to our sick leave.
Fair Contract
All of this further affirms our Bargaining Team’s commitment to achieving a fair collective agreement with CRA that provides enhanced protections for our jobs and fair compensation for PSAC/UTE members working at CRA. As it is too late for CRA to table new concessions for this round of bargaining, our team has taken the position that we want a contract that would protect our rights and benefits through to October of 2015 when the next election is scheduled to take place.
